May Committee Updates: Trash Pilot, Weatherize Concord, Church Street Parking

Reminder that in Concord, we have over 30 boards and committees! Want to get involved? Many have vacancies! Not sure what a committee does? Reach out and I may be able to help! Here’s what’s been going on or coming in April, May, and June.

The Solid Waste Advisory Committee is excited to see the automated trash pickup pilot roll out shortly (no pun intended). Angelina, Adam, and the team at General Services have done a phenomenal job with outreach and engagement! These areas of Ward 4 will be part of the pilot route (only about 35 households): Penacook Street, Columbus Avenue, Bishopsgate, and Auburn Street. Double check the map. Be sure to reach out to General Services for any logistical questions! The pilot starts around June 29. Our next meeting has not yet been scheduled.

The Energy & Environment Advisory Committee is discussing the fate of Community Power and the availability of energy audits to residents. I unfortunately had to miss the April Earth Day cleanup and the May meeting due to work conflicts. We meet on June 24 at the Heights Community Center.

Parking Committee decided to accept the Acting City Planner’s recommendation of allowing the Capital Improvements Plan to reflect the “repair” option for the State Street Garage in the FY 2027 budget. This does not mean we are committed to this option just yet. In June, we will discuss parking on Church Street. I hope to meet with a group of neighbors early in June on the arrangement here. The committee will meet June 22.

The Tax Exemption Policy Committee normally only meets once a year, but in this reevaluation year, we will have a special June meeting. I hope to bring some outreach ideas forward here, and we will also discuss a couple more tax credits that have been impacted by state law. We will meet June 10.

It is still not clear to me what the Opportunity Corridor policy committee is or will be. One person in city administration informed me this is indeed a new committee that is still underway. Another person in city administration has said this refers to a different committee within an external agency that meets as-needed.
