On Monday, June 22, the Parking Committee had a busy meeting with much discussion about Wards 4 and 5.
Earlier in the month I met with some neighbors on Church Street who had a number of suggestions for which side of the street to implement a winter parking ban, the direction of traffic on Church Street should it become a one-way street, and other safety and accessibility improvements in the area. We returned to the Parking Committee and ultimately directed staff to modify the ordinance for the north side of Church Street between Jackson and Lyndon streets. I will be following up with the Traffic Operations Committee and Transportation Policy Advisory Committee on the other concerns in the neighborhood.
We also held a discussion with the incoming principal of Concord High School and a resident of Pleasant Street regarding street parking and the previous times this area of Ward 5 was studied.
A reminder that we did leave the State Street garage tentatively in the budget with the “renovation” option for about $3.3 million between next year and the year after, though all options are still on the table. It is intended to be funded entirely by parking fees and not taxpayer dollars. This next year we intend to further discuss about recommendations from the parking study and alterations to the fees. I welcome any input on this.
